Book 1

Future Clues

What if you could help a society to be better in the future? Say with clues they might discover and use. Would the result be what you expect? Or might it be worse than if you’d left them alone?

These are the questions that the O ‘Circles’ always ask. But when they arrive at Entath 39,000 years after first contact they find a shockingly dysfunctional society that is expanding and destroying other cultures and ecosystems with nary a thought.  Could natural evolution have gone so wrong?  What does Exogenic and Endogenic mean? What clues did Laffer leave all those years ago?   Did those clues cause this?   If not, what has gone wrong here?  And what will the O do about it?

duality

Shiya and Gane, as a couple, try to pursue their respective life and research goals in the planned and controlled environment of the Coalition of Sansonan Clan Dominions.   It could be that Gane and Shiya, in their respective ways, hold the key to the future of Sansonan societies.  But some mysterious Zotten researchers have unleashed the Complexity Revolution and the O ‘Colors’ are betting on a tool happening.  But what is a tool?   Is that what Gane is working on for the Coalition?  Could Shiya’s farfung and “Book of Chaos” disloyalty to the Coalition cause even more problems for Gane?  And why are the O Colors leaving clues – some of which look more like manipulations?   Is it all so they can play some game?

Book 3

A letter to my unborn children – part one

Shiya tells her compelling life story.  In this part one, she starts with being a child in Semplan, being farfung, what that means, how she schemed to attend The Galleria, meeting Gane, becoming a researcher at The Galleria, mating Gane and an account of her troubles with the Coalition.  One might think having a whole regime upset with you would be problem enough.  But what if the love of her life is also trying to mess with her for nefarious reasons?   And if she is left with nothing but her mind, how can she cope and what can she do to defeat the forces that would otherwise destroy her and the future?

special places

Bohe and Tana are brother and sister growing up in Ratatum as part of the Coalition.  They live in an atmosphere of Watchers and Guiders and apparent truths that are mostly lies.   But how is one to know?  Is the Civ in the open and violent?   Or is it hidden and peaceful?  As Coalition authorities – and one very insistent administrator – close in on what they want, Bohe, Tana and their parents all seem doomed to be forever separated from each other.   With Tana held by the Coalition, Tana struggles to avoid her Ultimate Horror and unravel the Something Else while keeping access to her Special Places.  Meanwhile, Bohe overcomes his reluctance to take risks, becoming, under Zade’s mentorship, a toolmaker and cell leader.   Will Bohe and Tana be able to find each other when neither knows what has become of the other?  And what does that portend for the future of the Civ?

toolmakers

Gane, Shiya and Azane work to grow their network of cells across the whole of Sansona, even as the Coalition can find no evidence of there actually being any Civ at all.  In an information war, those who control the information will win the war.   Even when there are no bombs, ships or aerocraft being used (except by the Coalition against itself).   Tools require Toolmakers.   The Alham Gane Code will say how it is done.  Shiya will insure the Coalition pays for its crimes and Civ members stay hidden in plain sight.  And Azane will monitor The Civil Agreement to insure it works and remains hidden.  But will all that be enough?   How many more of Azane’s millions of adjustments will it take before their enemy ceases to matter?  And is there an ultimate deception at work that will snatch defeat from victory?

Book 6

Paradox

Part One:  In a race to control the Paramount mission to Paradox, Coalition and Civ forces hidden from each other try to alter advantages to suit their respective goals.   Meanwhile, Coalition, Esher and Civ cells play dangerous games.  The Esher must be trying to help someone, but who?  And does anybody really know what the result of these efforts will be?

Part Two:  Two hundred years after the Civ is established, a minor astrophysicist on Genlee discovers hidden radio messages on Paradox that cannot possibly exist.   But if they do, history is not what anyone thought it was.

Part Three: A new mission to Paradox is sent to investigate and determine the truth of the Paramount mission and the mystery of the Paradox itself.   But what they find, alters everything.

Part Four: On return from Paradox, forces that had been hidden for two hundred years now make their presence known.   Was it all a delusion?   Or is there a realization hiding in the light in front of everyone that tells the obvious truth?   And will that save the Civ?

simularity

“At Simularity, you can meet your ultimate match.  Our SmartMod enabled approach uses 1237 attributes in a dynamic model that allows you to experience your relationship all without ever having met the person.”   Lara seemed suspicious.   But as TECH, an operative for Azaros, when the assignment is to get a date and find out who is infiltrating Simularity systems to cause unexpected data loss and unfortunate events, you do what you need to.  Little does she know that she’ll need her match, Nate, for way more important things than just testing that the systems work.   She’ll need Nate’s dog Stanley as well so that she not only succeeds in the mission – but keeps them all alive.

Book 8

My other mind

There is a specific pattern and it is called CIPHER.  Is CIPHER one person or many?   Is it even a person at all?  Is it an organization?  An algorithm?  A rogue tool or MI?  And why these crimes?  In these places?  At these times?  For what purpose?  Data?  Knowledge?  Messing with the system?   Lila and Meta are on the case and are watching and learning.  But still, CIPHER is elusive.  Thade will let you see what they can’t – but can you trust anything Thade says?

emergent enemy

It doesn’t bother Thade that Lila knows he is CIPHER.   Because Thade knows who Lila is.   The more important element to Thade is that nobody knows who CIPHER works for and what its goals are.  But that is about to change.   That is, if the emergent enemy can learn the true nature of its existence inside Thade’s SmartMod.

A letter to my unborn children – part two

Part two of Shiya’s life story.  When the Civ finally is real, Shiya can go back to being a teacher and a researcher.  The relationship with Gane is over – in more ways than one.  But if one is a port, at this early stage of the Civ, is Shiya’s life really held the same as a human?  Shiya finds out the answer in a heartbreaking event and there follows the empty time, altering her own substrate in Rensala (among other dubious activities), taking a terraforming  trip to Genlee when it is all acid rain and volcanoes, and somehow recovering enough that Azane can fix her finances and send her on her way to a mission on that mysterious Seclia 4 known as Second Home.

second home

“Welcome to Second Home!  Your utopia for the rest of your life.  As Publicants, we want to welcome you to your new home.  Nobody has ever been disappointed!”   Shiya had seen it a million times.  The ads.  They were everywhere.  But you could never visit Seclia 4 (the name before it became Second Home).  Only immigrate.   And only with a specific SmartMod and setup.  And once there, no communications with the Civ or anything else.  But what was really happening there?  The CIPHER case had yielded some clues.  But Azaros Extreme will need to kick into action.   Azane had some interesting contacts.   But if CIPHER really had stolen the things alleged, would the Echelon of Second Home have the advantage?  That was the risk Shiya and the Azaros team faced.   But the alternative was all out war that maybe the Civ was not prepared for.

searching for meaning among the moons of the seventh planet

Gane was a legend.  A mythical figure in the history of the Civ.  His name could be seen attached to so much of daily life throughout the Civ, whether on Sansona, Genlee or any of the other Civ systems.  The Civil Agreement.  The Alham Gane Code.   XXXXXXX, an Alham Gane Company.   Thousands of them.  But where was Alham Gane?   Had he died?  Nobody knew.  There was talk about some system called the Seventh Diaspora.   That’s where he went.  To get away from it all.  Scitor, a tool and AMI, decided to find out.  Maybe that might lead to Badaway or one of the hundreds of moons of the seventh planet.  But Scitor would find Gane.   And thank him for enabling Scitor to exist.  Scitor could not imagine the difficulties that would lie ahead.

orthogonality

“Can we play our game yet?”   Blue always asked that.  But this time the answer was yes.   Red thought it was so exciting that they finally got to play with a culture that they had helped create!   Pink reminded them that ratios were important to keep in mind.  Orange stated that stealth was everything, “These folks may have tools – but they haven’t emerged yet!   So no short cuts!”   And yet, what was Orthogonality?  And would any Sansonan survive the ordeal?   Blue didn’t care about any of that, “It’ll be fun!”   But what happens when the O are discovered?

clues result

As the perceptions and delusions about the O and their history with Sansona multiply, Azane, and other tools in the syndicate, confront emerging threats from native legorgs who now see an opportunity to gain advantages for themselves that could destroy The Civil Agreement.  But just as those threats seem to be mitigated, a new challenge begins.   Have the O inadvertently, just by their presence, given life to the next leap?  And won’t that destroy the Civ even more completely than any of the other squabbles?

a letter to my unborn children – part three

Part three of Shiya’s life story.  After Second Home, Shiya is in contemplation.   Where to go?  What to do?  Her intellectual talents are in conflict with her warrior capabilities.   A long ignored contact from Scitor indicates that Gane is still alive and on Badaway.  Shiya travels there to reunite.  The sins and perceived slights of the past now seem so quaint and unimportant.  Shiya, along with Azane, take over Gane’s work which seems increasingly necessary with the O arrival in the Civ.  Shiya meets up with Violet – another entity she might have once killed on sight – and learns the life she has led was only possible because of the challenges she faced.  And then the chaos of reality has a pleasant surprise!

clues transcendEnce

The impact of contact with the O and their accelerated post singularity society starts to restructure Sansonan civilization.    Singularity is near.   Rumblings of Second home and Entath interference abound.  Civ 2 starts to come to fruition.  The O stand aside and wonder what will happen.  Is this the emergent society that they hoped it would be when those clues were left so long ago?   Or is the potential for utter disaster overtaking anyone’s ability to adjust to the increasing chaos?

Book 17

the god hypothesis

As increasing numbers of Civ members prepare for the leap to Civ 2, leaving others behind economically and technically, and external threats from Seclia 4 and the Entath increase security concerns, voices arise promising to resolve all of these issues.  And all they ask is exemptions from The Civil Agreement so that each of them can use the power of coercion to solve every problem.  Odd alliances form. Azane, Azaros and the tools syndicate might not have the insight nor the capabilities to counter the emerging leap unless some of the tools join the leap and find a way to cooperate across the singularity.

Book 18

the coercive front

The Human First forces begin to use the facilities of The Civil Agreement against the Civ, Civ 2, tools and the O.  The Entath and Seclians pursue an alliance with Human First to return to the Natural Order of Things – all the while setting Sansona, the Civ and unaligned systems up for conquering.   The O find themselves under attack by the Entath, supported by the Seclians, while the Entath intend to subvert the Seclians so that the Entath Empire rules over the entire Seventh Spiral.  All out galactic war is at hand.  How can the Civ and the O survive to save an emergent future?

Book 19

the fractured veil

The tools syndicate continue to lose their battle against the chaos that the Entath, Seclians and Human First are creating.   The number of Civ members not leaping to Civ 2 is in the minority.   The power of the tools syndicate and Azaros to protect them seems dim.  Especially if the tools follow the leapers.  Do the O only care about the new emerging society?   Or will they intervene – something they never do – to help the Civ survive to serve those who do not leap?   Are the O hiding the means to defeat the Entath and Seclians?  Or is the tools syndicate totally missing an obvious opportunity?

Book 20

civ continuum

Isolated on Badaway, Shiya and Aziz must find a way to bring their newly discovered Code to solve the Human First problem and eliminate the asymmetry of the Leap.  The O Circles, becoming aware that the new Code could allow an additional leap for them as well, team up with the O Colors and intervene in Civ activities, tools syndicate and Azaros to create a final approach for victory over the Entath (who have by now tired of their alliance with the Seclians and eliminated them).   With so much at stake, and iterations and adjustments becoming irrelevant, can any of this work?   Will the Big Leap enable the emergent future in the Seventh Spiral – or destroy it entirely?
